Preliminary investigations revealed that a dispute arose between both parties after the lorry driver overtook the cyclist on the road. When the lorry driver alighted from his vehicle to confront the cyclist, the cyclist is alleged to have punched the driver on the face.

The lorry driver was arrested on 26 February 2019 for rash act endangering the personal safety of others, while the cyclist is currently assisting with police investigation for voluntarily causing hurt.

If convicted for rash act endangering the personal safety of others under Section 336(a) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, the lorry driver may be liable to imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to $2,500, or with both. If convicted for voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, the cyclist may be liable imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years, or with fine which may extend to $5,000, or with both.

Rash driving or riding is dangerous and could result in serious or fatal traffic accidents. All motorists are urged to drive safely and strictly abide to traffic rules and regulations. The Police will not hesitate to take firm action against motorists who choose to endanger the safety of other road users.
