The Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a cases of impersonating as a public servant, cheating and possession of handcuff.
On 28 February 2019 at about 4.32 am, the Police received a report from a victim informing that a man who identified himself as a Central Narcotic Bureau (CNB) officer had purportedly cheated her into signing up for several mobile lines, and asking her to hand over to him the mobile phones that were purchased using those lines
Through follow-up investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him five hours later along Tampines Ave 7. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had tried to convince the victim that he is a CNB officer by showing her a pair of handcuffs. The handcuffs were seized as a case exhibit.
He will be charged in court on 1 March 2019 with personating as a public servant under Section 170 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he shall be punished with an imprisonment term which may extend to 2 years, or with fine, or with both. The man is also being investigated for cheating and possession of handcuff. Anyone convicted for cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, shall be punished with an imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years and shall also be liable to fine. Anyone convicted for possession of handcuff under Section 22A (2) of the Miscellaneous Offences, Chapter 184, shall be punished with a fine not exceeding S$5000, or imprisonment for a term not exceeding one month, or to both.
