Jurong Police Division Anti-Scam Awareness Programme (Asap) Roadshow 2019

Jurong Police Division held their Anti-Scam Awareness Programme (ASAP) Roadshow 2019 at West Mall on 2 March 2019. The roadshow focused on educating members of the public on four types of scams - internet love scam, impersonation scam, e-commerce scam and loan scam. Mr Murali Pillai, Member of Parliament for Bukit Batok Single Member Constituency graced the event as the guest of honour.

Launch of Anti-Scam Video Series

At the roadshow, a series of anti-scam videos targeting internet love scam, impersonation scam, e-commerce scam and loan scam was launched. The production is a collaboration between Jurong Police Division and the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC), and is released as part of NCPC’s “Let’s Fight Scams” campaign.

Revolving around a fictional character called “See Beh Suay”, the video series aims to raise scam awareness through the use of humour. The four videos will be released online in March and April 2019.

Recognising the Support from Organisations

Mr. Murali presented tokens of appreciation to the staff of Singapore Post Ltd (SingPost) in recognition of their support in the fight against scams. Jurong Police Division has collaborated with SingPost to display anti-scam advisories on the TV panels at Singpost’s branches, and also conducted anti-scam talks with the staff of Singpost to share tips on how to identify potential scam victims. The collaboration has produced encouraging results. In the year 2018, SingPost’s staff successfully intervened and prevented monetary loss to more than 10 potential scam victims.

Pledge to Fight Scams Together

Visitors to the roadshow were also invited to pledge their support to the “Let’s Fight Scams” campaign to stay vigilant and to protect their loved ones from scams. Those who support the campaign will receive regular alerts on scams and anti-scam tips from the NCPC and the Police, which they are encouraged to share with their family and friends. Members of the public can pledge their support in the fight against scams via www.scamalert.sg/fight.
