The Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of impersonating as a police officer.

On 22 February 2019 at about 1.30 am, the Police were alerted to a case where a man who identified himself as a police officer from the Criminal Investigation Department had purportedly asked a male victim for money and requested to enter his residential unit along Fajar Road on 22 February 2019 at about 12 am. The victim did not allow the man to enter his unit, and the man left subsequently.

Through follow up investigations and with the aid of images from CCTV cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 19 March 2019.

The man will be charged in court on 21 March 2019 with personating as a public servant under Section 170 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he shall be punished with an imprisonment term which may extend to 2 years, or with a fine, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public to be vigilant and wary of persons who may impersonate as police officers to facilitate the commission of their criminal acts. If in doubt, they should request for the police officer’s warrant card to verify his identity before complying with the instructions of the officer. A genuine warrant card will have identification features such as the Police crest, the photo of the officer, his name and NRIC number. When the card is tilted at an angle, the holographic word “POLICE” will also appear below the officer’s photograph. If they are still unsure of the person’s credibility as a police officer, they should call 999 for assistance.
