The Police have arrested a 31-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of theft of motor vehicle and theft from vehicle.

On 7 April 2019 at about 6.55pm, the Police received a report that a car which was originally parked at a car park of East Coast Park, had been stolen. The missing car was later recovered at another car park of East Coast Park. It was discovered that several bags and other valuables amounting to about S$23,500/- were missing from the vehicle.

Through ground enquiries and investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 10 April 2019 along Lorong 8 Geylang. Several bags and other valuables were recovered. 

The man will be charged in court on 12 April 2019 with theft of motor vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 and theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted for theft of motor vehicle, he will be liable to an imprisonment term of up to 7 years and shall also be liable to a fine. If convicted for theft, he shall be liable to an imprisonment term of up to 3 years, or with fine, or with both.

The Police would like to advise all motor vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures: 
    • Park in well-lit areas;
    • Install an anti-theft alarm system;
    • Remove cash-cards and other valuables before leaving the vehicle; and
    • Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when vehicle is parked, even if it is for a short while;
