The Police have arrested a 34-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of aggravated outrage of modesty.
 
On 20 April 2019 at about 4.30 am, the Police received a report from a victim that she had been molested by an unknown man in a lift at a HDB block along North Bridge Road.
 
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from CCTV cameras, officers from the Central Police Division and Police Intelligence Department established the identity of the man and arrested him on the same day at about 9.30 pm along Chai Chee Road. 

The man will be charged in the court with aggravated outrage of modesty under Section 354A(2)(a) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 on 22 April 2019. If convicted, he shall be punished with an imprisonment term of not less than 3 years and not more than 10 years and with caning. 

5        Members of the public are advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

    • Be alert and attentive to your surroundings and stay alert to any suspicious person(s); 
    • Carry along with you a shrill alarm; and 
    • If you are molested, seek help immediately from those around you. Take note of the prominent features and attire of the suspect as well as the direction in which he or she went. Call ‘999’ as soon as possible to increase the chances of apprehending the suspect early. If it is safe to do so, the victim or other witnesses of the crime may assist to detain the suspect while waiting for the Police to arrive.
