The Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment. 

On 20 April 2019, the Police received a report on loanshark harassment where the gate of a residential unit along Bedok Reservior Road was splashed with paint and secured with a bicycle lock. A debtor note was also left behind. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division and Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 25 April 2019. A mobile phone and a debtor note were seized as case exhibits. The man is believed to have carried out similar acts of loanshark harassment in Yishun housing estates.

The man will be charged in court on 27 April 2019 under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
