Bazaar Raya Geylang Serai 2019 will run from 3 May 2019 to 4 June 2019. Large crowds are expected at the bazaar, especially during the weekends. The Police would like to advise the public to remain vigilant against the following crimes by adopting the following measures:

    a) Theft
    • Never leave your personal belongings unattended in public places, not even for a short while;
    • Do not be distracted by strangers creating a commotion or accidentally bumping/spilling something onto you;
    • Avoid wearing excessive jewellery and carrying large amounts of cash; and
    • Avoid placing your wallet in your back pocket. If you are carrying a handbag, sling it in front of you and ensure that it is fastened or zipped at all times.

    b) Outrage of Modesty
    • Be alert to your surroundings. Where possible, move away if someone stands or sits exceptionally close to you;
    • Stay close to your friends or move around in groups when in crowded places; and
    • If you are molested, call for help immediately by shouting, or seek help from people nearby to increase the chances of apprehending the culprit. Call ‘999’ as soon as possible.

Heavy vehicular traffic is expected along Changi Road and Sims Avenue during this period. Motorists are advised to avoid the affected roads, make alternative travel arrangements and drive with caution. Auxiliary police officers will be deployed at all affected road junctions to regulate traffic and assist motorists. Strict enforcement action will also be taken against illegal parking.

The Police takes a serious view of anyone who sets off sparkler explosives. Such explosives are a potential fire hazard, and can cause undue alarm to the public, as well as injuries and damage to property. Anyone caught setting off such sparkler explosives may be prosecuted in court for negligent conduct with respect to any explosive substance under Section 286 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, the offender will be liable to an imprisonment term which may extend to one year or fine up to S$5,000, or with both. Should the act cause any injuries to others, one may be liable to prosecution for voluntarily causing hurt with heated or explosive substances under Section 324 of the Penal Code. If convicted, the offender will be liable to an imprisonment term which may extend to 7 years, or with fine, or with caning, or with any combination of such punishments.
