The Police are investigating a 29-year-old man who is believed to have lodged a false report.

On 20 May 2019 at about 2.16 am, the man lodged a report alleging that his car was missing.

During the course of investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division detected several inconsistencies in the man’s account. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had provided false information to the Police by claiming that he had been a victim of theft of vehicle.

Investigations against the man are ongoing. Anyone convicted of giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

Police would like to remind members of the public that police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
