The Police have arrested a 53-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of attempted robbery along Kallang Road.

On 6 June 2019 at about 9.20pm, the Police received a report that a man had pushed a 21-year-old woman into the bushes along Kallang Road and tried to steal her belongings. The woman put up a struggle and shouted for help. Subsequently, the man fled without taking any of the woman’s belongings.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV cameras, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him along French Road on 11 June 2019 at about 3.00pm.

The man will be charged in court on 13 June 2019 with attempted robbery under Section 393 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. Anyone convicted for attempted robbery shall be punished with an imprisonment term of not less than 2 years and not more than 7 years, and caning of not less than 6 strokes.

Members of the public are advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • When returning home alone or late at night, arrange for someone to escort you home;

     

  • Always be alert and attentive to your surroundings. If you suspect that you are being followed, remain calm and proceed to a more crowded area or call the Police to seek help;

     

  • Avoid placing your wallet in your back pocket. If you are carrying a handbag, sling it in front of you and ensure that it is fastened or zipped at all times; and

     

  • When on the streets, carry your handbag on the side that is away from moving traffic.
