The Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft reported along Ghim Moh Road. 

On 9 June 2019 at about 9.25pm, the Police received a report from a 51-year-old woman that an unknown man had snatched her purse along Ghim Moh Road.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 12 June 2019.

The man will be charged in court on 13 June 2019 with snatch theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with an imprisonment term of not less than one year and not more than 7 years, and shall also be liable to caning.

Members of the public are advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Always be alert and attentive to your surroundings. If you suspect that you are being followed, remain calm and proceed to a more crowded area or call the Police to seek help;

     

  • Avoid placing your wallet in your back pocket. If you are carrying a handbag, sling it in front of you and ensure that it is fastened or zipped at all times; and

     

  • When on the streets, carry your handbag on the side that is away from moving traffic.
