The Police have arrested a 45-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of outrage of modesty.
On 14 June 2019, at about 2 pm, the Police received a report from a 18-year-old female victim that she was molested by an unknown man at Marsiling Park along Woodlands Centre Road.
Through investigations and with the aid of police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him along Admiralty Road on 28 June 2019.
Investigations are ongoing. Anyone convicted of outrage of modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 shall be punished with an imprisonment term which may extend to 2 years, or with fine, or with caning, or with any combination of such punishments.
The Police would like to advise members of the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Be alert and attentive to your surroundings and stay alert to any suspicious person(s);
- If you are molested, seek help immediately from those around you. Carry a shrill alarm with you and use it to scare off the culprit or to attract the attention of passer-bys; and
- Take note of the prominent features and attire of the culprit as well as the direction in which he or she went. Call ‘999’ as soon as possible to increase the chances of apprehending the culprit early. If it is safe to do so, you or witnesses of the crime may assist to detain the culprit while waiting for the Police to arrive.
