The Police have arrested a 58-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft.
On 12 July 2019 at 1.09 pm, the Police received a report that a residential unit along Yishun Ave 6 was broken into. A safe that contained jewelleries and branded pens, two mobile phones and a laptop amounting to about $13,000 were found to be missing.
Through follow up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 14 July 2019 along Bukit Batok Street 52.
The man will be charged in court on 15 July 2019 with housebreaking and theft by night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years.
The Police would like to advise the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
• Do not leave house keys unattended;
• Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured before leaving the house;
• Secure all doors and windows with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks before retiring to bed or when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;
• Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
