The Police have arrested a 19-year-old teenager for his suspected involvement in a series of attempted extortion cases.

On 16 July 2019, the Police received a report by a female victim who informed that an online acquaintance had threatened to upload confidential information relating to the victim if she did not transfer money to him. 

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 17 July 2019. A mobile phone was also seized as case exhibit. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is also believed to be involved in other similar cases. Investigations are ongoing. 

Anyone convicted of attempted extortion under Section 385 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, shall be punished with an imprisonment term of not less than two years and not more than 5 years and with caning.
