The Police have arrested two men, aged 18 and 20, for their suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft.

On 25 July 2019 at about 9.55am, the Police received a report that a shop along Telok Blangah Crescent had been broken into. Cash amounting to S$2,500 was reported missing.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV footages, officers from Central Police Division established the identities of the two men and arrested them along Telok Blangah Drive and Serangoon Road separately, on 26 July 2019.

The two men will be charged in court on 27 July 2019 with housebreaking and theft by night with common intention punishable under Section 457 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term not less than 2 years, and not more than 14 years.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your shop unattended, even for a short while;
  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition; and
  • Keep large sums of cash in the banks, with minimal sum of money left behind in commercial premises at night.
