The Police have arrested two men, aged 26 and 29, for their suspected involvement in two separate cases of theft of motorcycles.
In the first case, the Police were alerted that a motorcycle parked at Paya Lebar Square had went missing on 23 July 2019. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 26 July 2019. The motorcycle was subsequently recovered in the vicinity of Kitchener Road.
In the second case, the Police were alerted that a motorcycle parked in a carpark along Pasir Ris Street 71 had went missing on 26 July 2019. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within 7 hours along Pasir Ris Drive 3. The motorcycle was subsequently recovered in the vicinity of Simei Street
The two men will be charged in court on 27 July 2019 with theft of motor vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which carries an imprisonment term of up to 7 years, and shall also be liable to fine.
The Police would like to advise all motorcycle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Park your motorcycle in well-lit areas;
- Install an anti-theft alarm for your motorcycle;
- Use a motorcycle canvas to cover the motorcycle, securing both ends;
- Use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or install a suspension guard; and
- Remove the ignition key and lock the motorcycle, whenever it is left unattended.
