The Police have arrested two men, aged 25 and 27, for their suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft.

On 16 August 2019 at about 8.21pm, the Police received a report from a woman that her mobile phone was snatched away by an unknown man along Jurong West Street 91.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTVs, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of a 25-year-old-man and arrested him on 21 August 2019. On the same day, a 27-year-old man was also arrested for his suspected involvement in the case.

The 25-year-old man will be charged in court on 23 August 2019 with snatch theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which is punishable with an imprisonment term of not less than one year and not more than 7 years, and shall also be liable to caning. Investigation against the 27-year-old man is ongoing.

Members of the public are advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Always be alert and attentive to your surroundings. If you suspect that you are being followed, remain calm and proceed to a more crowded area or call the Police to seek help;
  • Avoid placing your wallet in your back pocket. If you are carrying a handbag, sling it in front of you and ensure that it is fastened or zipped at all times; and
  • When on the streets, carry your handbag on the side that is away from moving traffic.
