The Police have arrested a 59-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft by day.

On 30 August 2019, the Police received a report that a residential unit located at Bukit Batok Central had been broken into. Monies and two mobile phones were reported stolen. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him along Mei Ling Street on 1 September 2019. Two mobile phones were recovered and seized as case exhibits.

The man will be charged in court on 3 September 2019 with housebreaking and theft by day, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;
  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in any premises; and
  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
