The Police have arrested a 23-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of vandalism.
On 2 September 2019, at about 3.10pm, the Police received a report that a few notice boards at the void deck of Block 602 Yishun Street 61, belonging to Town Council, have been vandalised. Further investigations revealed that some police cameras at the same block were also found to be vandalised.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division arrested the man along Yishun Street 61 on 3 September 2019, within 24 hours of the report.
The man will be charged in court on 5 September 2019 with vandalism. Under the Vandalism Act (Revised Edition 2014), any person who commits any act of vandalism or attempts to do any such act or causes any such act to be done shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $2,000, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 years, and shall also, subject to sections 325(1) and 330(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cap. 68), be punished with caning with not less than 3 strokes, and not more than 8 strokes, except that the punishment of caning shall not be imposed on a first conviction under this Act in the case of any act falling within.
