The Police have arrested a 63-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of theft of motor vehicle.

On 12 September 2019 at about 12.55am, the Police received a report from a victim informing that his lorry which was parked at an open carpark located along Jurong West Street 93 was missing.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him at about 5.00pm on the same day. The stolen lorry was subsequently recovered in the vicinity of Jurong West Street 93.

The man will be charged in court on 14 September 2019 with theft of motor vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. Anyone convicted for theft of motor vehicle shall be punished with an imprisonment term of up to 7 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

The Police would like to advise all vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Park in well-lit areas;
  • Install an anti-theft alarm system and ensure it is well-maintained;
  • Remove cash cards, keys and other valuables, such as laptops and mobile phones, before leaving the vehicle; and
  • Wind up all windows and lock all doors of the vehicle.
