The Police have arrested a 33-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft by night.

On 20 September 2019 at about 11.20 am, Police received a report that an office unit located along Kaki Bukit Avenue 3 had been broken into. Cash amounting to more than $500 were reported stolen.

Through ground enquiries and investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 20 September 2019 at about 4.20pm.

The man will be charged in court on 21 September 2019 with the offence of housebreaking and theft by night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

The Police would like to advise property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures against break-ins:

  • Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks before leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;
  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in commercial premises; and
  •  Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and/or close circuit surveillance cameras, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
