The Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft by night.

On 11 November 2019 at about 7.50am, the Police were alerted to a break-in at a convenience store located along Toa Payoh Central. Cash, cash cards, SIM cards and an assortment of cigarettes with a total value amounting to more than $1,600 were stolen. 

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of CCTV footages, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 12 November 2019.

The man will be charged in court on 14 November 2019 with housebreaking and theft by night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence carries an imprisonment term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

The Police would like to advise the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

 

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks before leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;

 

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in commercial premises; and

 

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
