In a ceremony held at Bedok Police Division on 2 December 2019, a member of the public was commended for his public spiritedness.
On 27 November 2019 at about 4.00pm, the Police were alerted to a 66-year-old man who was using a hammer to hit vehicles travelling along Bedok North Road. Witnessing this, Mr Khairil Anwar Bin Tahir stopped his motorcycle at the side of the road and, upon seeing police officers moving in for the arrest, rushed forward to assist officers in subduing the man. The man was charged on 28 November 2019 with the offence of Rash Act which endangers lives or the personal safety of others under Section 336(a) of the Penal Code.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Julius Lim, Commander of Bedok Police Division said, “Mr Khairil displayed courage and civic duty when he helped subdue the subject to restore law and order. His example reminds us that the maintenance of rule of law in Singapore involves not just the SPF, but everyday Singaporeans too, stepping forward to work hand-in-hand with police officers to keep our community safe and secure.”
