Woman Convicted For Cheating Of Singapore Workforce Development Agency (Wda) Training Grants

Serene Loh Peh Wen, a 47-year-old training consultant, was convicted of five charges of engaging in a conspiracy with two others to cheat then-WDA into disbursing training grants.  Eight similar charges were taken into consideration for sentencing.

Between March 2014 and May 2015, Serene Loh had conspired with two accomplices to submit 13 claims to then-WDA that falsely certified that employees of Yoke Mah Plasterceil Pte Ltd had attained full attendance in 13 courses.  These 13 training courses which were supposed to have been conducted by two WDA-approved training providers were never conducted.  Serene Loh enlisted accomplices to create false attendance records to support these claims.  The fraudulent claims resulted in a total payout of more than $72,000.

For her offences, Serene Loh was sentenced to 29 months’ imprisonment on 9 January 2020.

The court proceedings against four others involved in the case are ongoing.
