The Police have arrested two men, aged 23 and 35, for their suspected involvement in a series of housebreaking and theft.

Between 10 and 13 January 2020, the Police received multiple reports that several shops along East Coast Road and Thomson Road had been broken into. Cash, cigarettes and electronic devices were discovered to be stolen.

Through ground enquiries and investigations, officers from Tanglin and Bedok Police Divisions  established the identities of the duo and arrested them on 15 January 2020.

The duo will be charged in court on 17 January 2020 with housebreaking and theft with common intention under Section 451 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence carries an imprisonment term, which may extend to 10 years, and a fine.

The Police would like to advise the all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks before leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in your premises; and

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
