The Police have arrested a 28-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of cheating.

On 14 February 2020, the Police received a report from a victim who claimed he was cheated by an online seller who advertised the sales of surgical face masks on Carousell. The victim had handed over S$175,000/- as deposit for an order of 500 cartons of surgical face masks which was intended to be distributed to the staff of a company. However, after receiving the deposit, the male suspect became uncontactable and did not deliver the goods.

Through ground enquiries and follow-up investigations, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on the same day.

The man will be charged in court on 15 February 2020 with Cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
