The Police have arrested a 30-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft.

On 7 April 2020 at about 10.40am, the Police received a report from a man that his mobile phone valued at $400 was snatched by an unknown man along 1 Jurong East Street 22.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 8 April 2020.

The man will be charged in court on 9 April 2020 with snatch theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence carries an imprisonment for not less than one year and not more than 7 years, and caning.

Members of the public are advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures against snatch theft:

  • Always be alert and attentive to your surroundings. If you suspect that you are being followed, remain calm and proceed to a more crowded area or call the Police to seek help;
  • Avoid wearing excessive jewellery or carrying large sums of cash; and
  • Avoid placing your wallet in your back pocket. If you are carrying ahandbag, sling it in front of you and ensure that it is fastened or zipped at all times.
