The Police have arrested a 40-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft.

On 1 May 2020 at about 9.30am, the Police were alerted to a case of housebreaking along Serangoon North Avenue 1. One laptop, one tablet and cash amounting to about $40 were reported stolen.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV footage, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on the same day.

The man will be charged in court on 2 May 2020 with housebreaking and theft under Section 458A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years, a fine and caning.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures: 

a.         Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;

b.         Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in any premises; and

c.         Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
