The Police have arrested a 57-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking.
On 14 May 2020 at about 9.15am, the Police were alerted to a case of housebreaking along Buroh Street. Cash amounting to about USD 205,000 and SGD 6,000 were reported stolen.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from a CCTV footage, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within 4 hours. Cash amounting to USD 157,630 and SGD 489 were recovered. A damaged safe door was also seized as a case exhibit.
The man will be charged in court on 16 May 2020 with housebreaking under section 451 of the Penal Code. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
Commander of Jurong Police Division, AC Devrajan Bala said, the Police will spare no effort to ensure that offenders are brought swiftly to justice. Such serious property offences cannot be condoned and offenders shall be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
· Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;
· Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in any premises; and
· Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
