The police have arrested a 45-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft.

On 9 July 2020 at about 8.15am, the police were alerted to a case of alleged housebreaking along Edgefield Plains, where the window grille of a unit was found unlocked. Cash amounting to about $40 was reported stolen.

Through follow-up investigations, use of forensic evidence, and with the aid of images from CCTV cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 16 July 2020.

The man will be charged in court on 18 July 2020 with housebreaking and theft under Section 451 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

a. Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;

b. Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in any premises; and

c. Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
