The Police have arrested a 51-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of public nuisance.

On 14 August 2020 at about 2.10am, the Police received a report from a victim that his laptop was damaged by an unknown man at a coffee shop along Bedok North Street 3. Through enquiries and follow up investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 17 August 2020. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is also suspected to be involved in at least two cases of mischief where the windscreen of a car and the window of a lorry were separately damaged along Bedok North Street 3.

The man will be charged in court on 18 August 2020 with public nuisance. The offence of public nuisance under Section 290 of the Penal Code carries a fine which may extend to $2,000. If the act is deemed to be able to cause any common injury, danger or annoyance to the public, or to the people in general who dwell or occupy property in the vicinity, the offence will carry an imprisonment term which may extend to three months, or a fine which may extend to $2,000, or both. The offence of mischief under Section 426 of the Penal Code carries an imprisonment term which may extend to two years, or fine, or both.
