The Police are investigating a 19-year-old teenager who is believed to have lodged a false report.
On 2 September 2020 at about 4.45pm, the 19-year-old teenager lodged a report alleging that his motorcycle was stolen on 31 August 2020 along Choa Chu Kang Street 51.
During the course of investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division detected several inconsistencies in the teenager’s account. Preliminary investigations revealed that the teenager is believed to have sold off his motorcycle but provided false information to the Police by claiming that someone had stolen his motorcycle.
Investigations against the teenager are ongoing. Anyone convicted for giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with a fine which may extend to $5,000, or with both.
The Police would like to remind members of the public that police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
