The Police have arrested a 36-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of cheating.

On 3 September 2020 at about 4.55pm, the Police were alerted to a case where an elderly victim was purportedly cheated by the man, who allegedly asked the elderly victim to hand  over his ATM card with his Personal Identification Number as the man had  claimed to be able to help him to obtain financial grants from the Government. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had made unauthourised bank withdrawal of S$1,300/- from the victim’s bank account.

Through ground enquires and investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division arrested the man within the day.

The man will be charged in court on 5 September 2020 with the offences of cheating and theft, punishable under Section 420 and 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 respectively. Anyone found guilty of cheating may be punished with imprisonment for up to 10 years and shall also be liable to fine. Anyone found guilty of theft may be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 years, or fine, or both.
