On 2 October 2020, Jurong Police Division presented the Public Spiritedness Award to two members of the public.
On 29 September 2020 at about 12.02 pm, the Police received a call for assistance of a commotion involving a man holding a knife, at Block 409 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3. Witnessing this from his home nearby, Sergeant Ezekiel Letchumanan K Saminadan, an off-duty police officer from Jurong Police Division, responded immediately. Realising that the man was armed with a knife, he quickly sought the assistance of two workers, Mr Panchavarnam Suresh and Mr Ravi Santhoshkumar, who were at a nearby work site.
Once the subject was subdued by the off-duty police officer, the two workers immediately rendered assistance to restrain the man. The 23-year-old man was subsequently arrested for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon. Police investigations are ongoing.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Devrajan Bala, Commander of Jurong Police Division said, “Sergeant Ezekiel and the two workers had displayed bravery by restraining the armed subject to prevent any further harm to others. This is not the first time that members of our migrant community have stepped forward to render assistance to someone in need. Their selfless act is highly commendable.”
