Man Arrested For Voluntarily Causing Hurt By Dangerous Weapon And Four Men Arrested For Unlawful Assembly

The Police have arrested five men; a 24-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon and four men, aged between 22 and 44, for their suspected involvement in a related case of unlawful assembly.

On 8 October 2020 at 1.30am, the Police were alerted to a case where a victim was allegedly attacked by the 24-year-old man with a knife at 525 Serangoon Road. The attack purportedly arose from a heated argument between the victim and a group of men, including the 24-year-old. The victim suffered injuries on his left arm and was conveyed to Singapore General Hospital in a conscious condition.

Through ground enquiries, officers from Central Police Division and the Criminal Investigation Department established the identity of the 24-year-old man and arrested him on 9 October 2020. Four other men, who were believed to be present when the incident happened, were also arrested for unlawful assembly between 8 and 10 October 2020. Investigations are ongoing.

Anyone convicted for the offence of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon under section 324 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 can be sentenced to an imprisonment term which may extend to seven years, or fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments. Anyone convicted for being a member of an unlawful assembly can be sentenced to imprisonment term which may extend to 2 years, or fine or with both.

The Police have zero tolerance towards such brazen acts, and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
