The Police have arrested a 16-year-old teenager for his suspected involvement in a case of sexual services scam.

On 26 November 2020, the Police received a report from a victim who informed that he was purportedly cheated by a ‘woman’ who had asked him to make an advance payment into a bank account in exchange for sexual services. After the payment was made, the ‘woman’ had allegedly become uncontactable.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the teenager is believed to have masqueraded as woman on online platform, locanto, to cheat and is involved in other similar cases island-wide.

The teenager will be charged in court on 23 December 2020 with cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term that may extend to ten years, and a fine.

The Police take a serious view of persons who may be involved in scams and frauds, and perpetrators will be dealt with, in accordance with the law.
