The Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft.
On 23 December 2020 at about 6am, the Police received a report that a commercial unit located along Woodlands Industrial Park E9 had been broken into. Cash amounting to S$1500 and six cartons of cigarettes valued at S$749 were reportedly stolen.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras (POLCAM) and CCTVs, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 6 January 2021. A total of seven packets of cigarettes valued at $80 were seized.
The man will be charged in court on 8 January 2021 with housebreaking and theft under Section 451 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence carries an imprisonment term up to 10 years and a fine.
The Police would like to advise property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your premises unattended;
- Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition; and
- Refrain from keeping large sums of cash at commercial premises.
