The Police have arrested a 19-year-old male teenager and a 27-year-old man for their suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.
On 8 January 2021, the Police received a report from a delivery company that was deceived into believing that orders submitted from customer accounts were authentic and could not be delivered. As a result, the company released the items to the two deliverymen who were assigned for the orders to be disposed, which they had then allegedly dishonestly misappropriated for their own use.
Through investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identities of the duo and arrested them on 12 January 2021. Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo is suspected to be responsible for more than $17,000 worth of fictitious orders.
Investigations are ongoing. The offence of cheating, punishable under Section 420 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.
The Police take a serious view of persons who may be involved in scams and frauds, and perpetrators will be dealt with, in accordance with the law.
