The Police have arrested a 49-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking.

On 11 January 2021 at about 12.40pm, the Police were alerted to a case of housebreaking along East Coast Road. A glass panel on the door of the unit was purportedly tampered with. Nothing was reported missing.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of CCTV, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 18 January 2021.

The man will be charged in court on 20 January 2021 with housebreaking under Section 448 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence carries an imprisonment term which may extend to 3 years, a fine, or both.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in any premises; and

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
