The Police have arrested a 49-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of theft from vehicle cases.

On 31 March 2021, the Police received multiple reports that cashcards were allegedly stolen from vehicles parked along Henderson Road.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police and CCTV cameras, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the man and subsequently arrested him on 1 April 2021, within 16 hours of the first report being lodged. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in other similar cases.

The man will be charged in court on 1 April 2021 with theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code. The offence carries an imprisonment term which may extend to three years, a fine, or both.

The Police would like to advise all vehicle owners to adopt the following measures:

  • Install an anti-theft alarm system;

  • Do not leave cash and valuables such as cashcards, laptops, handphones, briefcases or wallets in your vehicle;

  • Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when vehicle is parked, even if it is for a short while; and

  • Park your vehicle in well-lit areas.
