The Police have arrested a 66-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of theft in dwelling.
On 12 April 2021 at about 6.35am, the Police were alerted to a case of theft of cash from a stall at Bukit Merah View hawker centre. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had allegedly stolen cash amounting to more than $850 from five stalls.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV and Police cameras, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on the same day. Cash amounting to about $640 was recovered.
The man will be charged in court on 14 April 2021 with theft in dwelling, punishable under Section 380 of the Penal Code and criminal trespass under Section 447 of the Penal code.
The offence of theft in dwelling carries an imprisonment term which may extend to seven years, and a fine. The offence of criminal trespass carries an imprisonment term which may extend to three months, and a fine which may extend to $1,500.
