The Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of evasion of roadblock.
On 11 May 2021, at about 1.55am, officers from Clementi Police Division were conducting a roadblock along Henderson Road in the direction towards Telok Blangah Road, and the officers had directed the driver of a car to stop for vehicular checks. The driver allegedly failed to stop and sped off.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV and Police cameras, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the driver and arrested him for evading a roadblock.
The man will be charged in court on 22 May 2021 with evasion of a roadblock under Section 26(2) of the Police Force Act, Chapter 235. Any person convicted of this offence shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $5,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or both.
The Police conduct roadblocks to deter and detect crimes. Members of public are advised to cooperate with police officers when approached during roadblocks. The Police take a serious view of persons who evade roadblocks and perpetrators will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
