The Singapore Road Safety Council (SRSC) and Traffic Police (TP), with support from the Land Transport Authority, Ministry of Education, People’s Association and Automobile Association of Singapore, launched the Singapore Road Safety Month 2021 campaign today.

The theme of the month-long campaign is “Road Safety for All”. The campaign will focus on raising awareness on red light running and speeding offences. The Guest of Honour for the online launch of the campaign was Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Minister of State for the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of National Development.

Two road safety videos were produced as part of public education outreach efforts to educate motorists on the correct driving behaviours. The videos highlight the seriousness and negative consequences of red light running and speeding, and what must be done to avoid these accidents arising from the offences. The videos will be aired on various SRSC social media platforms including Facebook and YouTube as well as on national television.

To raise awareness on the importance of safe driving and looking out for other motorists on the road, a month-long ‘Spot the Safe Motorist’ programme, will also be organised as part of Singapore Road Safety Month 2021. From 28 May 2021 to 27 June 2021, motorists who are spotted by TP patrol officers displaying safe driving behaviour or performing a courteous act on the roads, will be rewarded with a COVID-19 care pack (please refer to Annex A for image of the care pack).

“We should always remember that the road is a common space shared by various road users. Remaining gracious on the roads and driving with the correct driving behaviours can ensure that everyone would return home safely to their loved ones. We hope that the initiatives unveiled at the Singapore Road Safety Month 2021 would encourage all road users to do their part in making our roads even safer for all road users.” said Mr Bernard Tay, Chairman, SRSC.

SRSC and TP will continue to promote road safety despite the COVID-19 situation. Commander of TP, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Gerald Lim said, “The Singapore Road Safety Month is a timely reminder to all road users to use your road sense and abide with all traffic rules. While Traffic Police rewards motorists who practise good road sense, we will also take firm action against errant road users who choose to blatantly flout traffic rules.”.

Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim said, “Singapore Road Safety Council and Traffic Police will launch the ‘Spot the Safe Motorist’ programme to encourage motorists to be alert and courteous while driving. Traffic Police patrol officers will stop motorists who exhibit good driving behaviours – not to give them a ticket, but to reward them with a COVID-19 care pack.”

We would like to remind the public to stay safe on the roads and to remain safe during the COVID-19 situation.
