The Police have arrested a 20-year-old woman for her suspected involvement in a case of cheating.
On 11 May 2021, the Police received a report from a female victim who received a text message via WhatsApp from a person claiming to be someone known to the victim. She was purportedly deceived into transferring cash amounting to $350 to the said person as a loan.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the woman and arrested her on 22 June 2021. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman is also believed to involved in another similar case of cheating.
The woman will be charged in court on 24 June 2021 with cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code. The offence carries an imprisonment term that may extend to 10 years and a fine.
