The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) jointly organised the e-Delta League Tournament from 10 – 25 June 2021. Mr Desmond Tan, Minister of State for Home Affairs & Sustainability and the Environment, graced the Grand Finals as the Guest of Honour, which took place virtually on 25 June 2021.

Delta League is a flagship programme where sports, specifically football, is used as the anchor to engage the youths and to keep them meaningfully occupied during the school holidays in June and December. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, Delta League was organised in the form of physical football tournaments. It was first started in 2011 and this year marks its 10th anniversary.  Given the current constraints, the Delta League had shifted the competition online. For this edition, Mobile Legend (ML) was chosen for its mass-market appeal worldwide as it is commonly used to anchor e-Sports competitions. More importantly, ML is a game about strategy, tactics, planning and working together as a team. This is in line with football which similarly requires tactical abilities, planning, adaptation and teamwork.

In this e-edition of the Delta League, youths aged between 13 and 17, participated in the ML tournament via a 5-versus-5 game format. There were over 700 players from 128 teams who competed in the open category. During the duration of the tournament, the youths  also participated in an online workshop conducted by Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) and National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) to broaden their knowledge on the consequences of joining a gang, drug use and problem gambling.

In addition, the youths also participated in activities such as the Anti-Scam TikTok/Instagram Challenge and Meme Design Competition. These activities were designed to enhance their crime prevention awareness and to inculcate a sense of social responsibility, teamwork and discipline under the guidance of assigned police mentors. The winning entries can be viewed on the Delta League Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/DeltaLeagueSG.

We look forward to engaging the youths again in the next edition of Delta League in December 2021.
