The Police have arrested a 20-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of armed robbery with hurt.

On 13 July 2021, the Police were alerted to a case of robbery along Gerald Drive. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim liaised with the seller of a supposed luxury watch through an online marketplace. On the seller’s instructions, the victim waited along the said location when the man approached the victim and purportedly attempted to rob him of cash amounting to $100,000. The man was allegedly armed with a knife and in the process of the robbery, the victim resisted and sustained a slash wound on the left side of his face. The man fled without taking any of the victim’s valuables. The victim was subsequently conveyed to the hospital and has since been discharged.

Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police and CCTV cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division and established the identity of the man and arrested him on 15 July 2021.

The man will be charged in court on 17 July 2021 with armed robbery with hurt, under Section 394 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code. If convicted, he may be liable for an imprisonment term of not less than 5 years and not more than 20 years, and not less than 12 strokes of the cane.

Commander of Ang Mo Kio Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Zed Teo, commended the officers for their hard work and painstaking efforts resulting in the arrest of the suspect and said, “Police will not tolerate such brazen acts. We will spare no effort to track down those who commit violence and take firm action against them in accordance with the law.”

Members of the public are advised not to carry large amounts of cash with them in public. When confronted in a robbery, members of the public should remain calm, take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator, and call for the Police as soon as possible.
