The Police have arrested six men, aged between 19 and 27, for their suspected involvement in a case of rioting.

On 7 August 2021 at about 12.20am, the Police received a call for assistance regarding a commotion along Yishun Street 11 involving a large group of people. When officers arrived, a 26-year-old man was found to be injured and was conveyed to the hospital.

Through follow-up investigations and ground enquiries, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identities of the six men who are allegedly involved and arrested them on the same day.

One of the men, aged 24, was charged in court on 7 August 2021 with rioting under Section 147 of the Penal Code while the remaining five men were charged with the same offence in court on 9 August 2021. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and caning.

The Police are also investigating these men for their alleged breach of the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020. For non-compliance with safe distancing measures under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020, offenders may be jailed for up to six months, fined up to S$10,000, or both.
