The Police have arrested a 27-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of evasion of roadblock and theft from a vehicle.

On 6 September 2021, at about 1.35am, officers from Clementi Police Division were conducting a roadblock along Holland Road, and the officers had directed the rider of a motorcycle to stop for vehicular checks. The rider allegedly failed to stop and sped off.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV and Police cameras, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the rider and arrested him on 7 September 2021. Preliminary investigations revealed that he is also believed to be involved in a subsequent case of theft from another vehicle on the same day.

The man will be charged in court on 9 September 2021 with evasion of a roadblock under Section 26(2) of the Police Force Act and theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

Any person convicted with evasion of a roadblock shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $5,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or both. The offence of theft carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, or fine, or both.

The Police conduct regular roadblocks to deter and detect crimes. Members of the public are advised to cooperate with police officers when approached during roadblocks. The Police take a serious view of persons who evade roadblocks and perpetrators will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
