Two Men Arrested For Voluntarily Causing Grievous Hurt With Common Intention

The Police have arrested two men, aged 61 and 70, for their suspected involvement in a case of voluntarily causing grievous hurt with common intention.

On 2 November 2021 at about 10.50am, the Police were alerted to a case where a bus captain was allegedly assaulted by two men on board a bus along Loyang Avenue. Preliminary investigations revealed that the two men allegedly assaulted the bus captain as they were angry with him for telling them to don their masks properly.

Through ground enquiries, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identities of the two men and arrested them on the same day. The Police are also investigating the two men for non-compliance with safe distancing measures.

The two men will be charged in court on 3 November 2021 for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with common intention under Section 325 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence of voluntarily causing grievous hurt carries an imprisonment term which may extend to 10 years and shall also be liable to fine or caning.

Individuals found guilty of breaching the Regulations under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020 are liable for a fine of up to $10,000, imprisonment term of up to six months, or both.
