136 Investigated In Multi-Agency Enforcement Operation

A total of 104 men and 32 women, aged between 15 and 77, are being investigated for various offences, following a week-long multi-agency enforcement operation conducted between 28 November and 4 December 2021.

Led by Jurong Police Division and supported by officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Singapore Customs, the operation covered various locations in Jurong West, Tuas, Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Panjang and Bukit Batok.

As part of the operation, a total of 41 men and 10 women, aged between 15 and 59, are being investigated for their suspected involvement in various offences such as vice-related activities, drug-related offences, traffic-related offences and being a member of a secret society.

As part of enforcement efforts against illegal bookmaking and gambling activities, 25 men and 3 women, aged between 30 and 77, are being investigated for suspected offences under the Betting Act and Common Gaming Houses Act.

Another 23 men and 9 women, aged between 19 and 67, are being investigated for allegedly assisting in loansharking activities and loan scams.

Another 14 men and 10 women, aged between 18 and 60, are also being investigated for their suspected involvement in e-commerce scams and commercial crime offences. They are believed to be involved in 102 such cases reported island-wide, involving a sum of more than $440,000.

In a joint operation with ICA and Singapore Customs, a 35-year-old man was also arrested for alleged offences under the Customs Act and Immigration Act.

Out of the 136 individuals, 20 men and 2 women, aged between 31 and 67, will also be investigated for alleged non-compliance with safe distancing measures.

Cash amounting to at least $950, betting and gambling-related paraphernalia, vaporiser pods and duty-unpaid cigarettes were seized by the Police. Investigations against all individuals are ongoing.

Commander of Jurong Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Shee Tek Tze, said, “This joint operation led by Jurong Police Division is part of our ongoing efforts to keep our community safe. The Police will take tough enforcement action against those involved in criminal activities. Those found engaging in such activities will be dealt with sternly, in accordance with the law.”
